How to feel the fear, but do it anyway.

When something scares you, move toward it. If you’re considering two amazing opportunities, one that’s terrifying and another that’s within your mental safety zone, take on the intimidating one.

“Fear is good. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do. Remember one rule of thumb: the more scared we are of a work or calling, the more sure we can be that we have to do it.” — Stephen Pressfield, The War of Art

The scariest opportunities in my life have yielded the most amazing gifts:

  • I moved out of the house at 15 to pursue a music career. Fear.
  • I ended a four year relationship because I wasn’t happy. Uncertainty.
  • I left my life in music and followed a calling into marketing. Risk.

Each of these changes meant taking on a new, incredible experience — but just because something is a great opportunity doesn’t mean it’s not scary.

When your belief in an opportunity is so strong that you have no choice but to face your fears and move forward, you know it’s right. And when it comes to acknowledging the uncertainty, risk, fear, and resistance that comes with a huge transformation, know that you’re not alone.
